Akive - Inventory App

UI/UX Design

Overview

Viicsoft is currently working on a new product development project for Crisp TV, a comprehensive media production studio. The aim of this initiative is to streamline operations, enhancing efficiency and effectiveness for both employees and clients.

As the lead Product Designer, I worked on the High Fidelity design, design system, Hi-Fi Prototype and I worked on the UX Design which included making flows and swim lanes, Low Fidelity design, and Lo-Fi prototypes.

Understanding the Problem

In the contemporary media production landscape, technology plays a crucial role in fostering operational efficiency. According to industry reports, integrating technology and software solutions has become integral for businesses in the media production sector.
For instance, a study by Statista highlights that over 80% of media production companies have adopted advanced software systems to streamline their workflows. This trend extends to industrial factories and workshops within the industry, where the utilization of technology has shown a significant impact on optimizing various processes.

Embracing these tools is not just a choice but a necessity for staying competitive and enhancing overall job effectiveness in the dynamic realm of media production.

Crisp Tv, is the one of the leading media production studios in south-east Nigeria, and as such are always handling medium-large scale event coverage projects which involves moving around many equipments to and from several locations. Keeping track of equipments in use and not in use, knowing the locations where they’re being used, and also knowing the equipments conditions at all times can be a real tedious work when done manually and prone to error and huge losses as the equipments are industry standard and expensive.

Understanding the Users

To grasp the needs of the users, I designed a survey and shared it with potential users. The survey gathered responses from 30 individuals aged 22–35. Among them, 85% described the inventory tracking and management system as very tedious

How do users manage equipments and inventory?
From the survey I was able to discover that
72.2% of users use spreadsheets to manage equipments,
38.9% of them use a book and write out every equipment in it
5.6% use a mixture of both.

Are the participants comfortable with the idea of keeping track of inventory easily from their smartphone?
All of the survey participants were comfortable with the idea of easily keeping track of inventory from their phones.

Some insights from the survey
It is safe to continue with the designing the solution to this issue.
Traditional inventory management can be very tedious.
Those who are always in charge of the inventory management are always prone to error.

From the survey I was able to identify a list of problems faced by users while managing inventory. After identifying these problems, I sorted them out based on how much value they offer to the users and business when solved.

Here is a list of the problems after prioritisation:
Disorganised equipments tracking.
Inefficient resource allocation.
Overly manual or stressful means of checking out equipments for use and in after use.
Unnecessary production delays.
Difficulty in forecasting needs.

User Personas

I decided to create personas to further represent the possible group of app users as well as their context.
